Therearetwomainreasonswhyitcouldbearguedthatwearemoredependentoneachothernow.Firstly,lifeismoreplexanddifficult,especiallybecausethecostoflivinghasincreasedsodramatically.Forexample,youngadultstendtorelyontheirparentsforhelpwhenbuyingahouse.Propertypricesarehigherthanever,andwithouthelpitwouldbeimpossibleformanypeopletopayadepositandamortgage.Secondly,peopleseemtobemoreambitiousnowadays,andtheywantabetterqualityoflifefortheirfamilies.Thismeansthatbothparentsusuallyneedtoworkfull-time,andtheydependonsupportfromgrandparentsandbabysittersforchildcare.

However,Iwouldagreewiththosewhobelievethatpeoplearemoreindependentthesedays.Inmostcountries,familiesarebingsmallerandmoredispersed,whichmeansthatpeoplecannotcountonrelativesasmuchastheyusedto.Wealsohavemorefreedomtotravelandlivefarawayfromourhometowns.Forexample,manystudentschoosetostudyabroadinsteadofgoingtotheirlocaluniversity,andthisexperiencemakesthemmoreindependentastheylearntolivealone.Anotherfactorinthisgrowingindependenceistechnology,whichallowsustoworkaloneandfromanypartoftheworld.

Inconclusion,whiletherearesomereasonstobelievethatpeoplenowdependoneachothermore,myownviewisthatwearemoreindependentthanever.
